The Colin Burgess Memorial Service

Glen A Baker Sydney Morning Herald Tribute Article

Colin Burgess, the Australian drummer died just before Xmas 2023 and recently his brother and family organised a memorial concert that I was honoured to be asked to play at.

Glen A. Baker compared the night and introduced each of the acts as they came up on stage.

Before I took the stage Glen read an article that he’d written for the Sydney Morning Herald to celebrate Colin’s life and career which I’d like to share with you:

Since Colin was the first drummer in AC/DC I did a medley of early AC/DC songs as a tribute.

The reason behind why I was asked to play at Colin’s memorial concert was because he was the drummer in my “Guitar Heroes” show so my little set was the “Guitar Heroes” tribute to Colin.

We had 3 different drummers play live with my “Guitar Heroes” show.

The first was Mal Green, who’d played with Split Enz, Mick O’Shea, who’d played with Dragon and Colin who’d played with Masters Apprentices and AC/DC.

It was a great experience for me playing and recording with all those legendary Australian guitarists but equally it was really something to play with Mal, Mick & Colin.

As we were taking our places on stage they played a video tribute (which was put together by our friend Richard Fricker) of Colin playing with my “Guitar Heroes” which I’d like to share with you here.
